Dry Run - Not So Good?! -
Alright not. So a few days ago I was blogging about that girl that runs the "Frayed Laces" blog, and how I wanted to beat her 5K PR in September, since she enjoys "beating guys" so much, and it was pissing me off, well, since I'm a guy.
So today I did a "dry run" of the same course I will be racing on in September. "Frayed Laces" blogs about the "mental and emotional ups and downs of training and racing." Today, I could totally relate to that, because I did not do nearly as well as I had hoped.
I don't normally time my outdoor runs, but did today to predict my September race time, and find out where I stand. I guess the good news is that I ONLY missed my own 5K PR by 9 seconds, on a solo run, and since like I said this course is actually a 3.25 miler, I can take some solace in the fact that pace wise, I actually DID top my own PR 5K pace by a nice 20 seconds/per mile. AND I didn't have any niggers throwing beer bottles out their car windows at me today.
I think I can make up the 9 seconds next time and set a new PR on race day, but my goal was to beat HER PR, so I was kind of disappointed at my time.
So I got me to thinking.....
It's probably an abstract idea to try to beat someone else's PR instead of my own, maybe I'm putting too much pressure on myself, and perhaps I should lower my expectations a little and be happy next month if I top my own PR.
I think she's just a tad out of my league FOR NOW, being a full 00:30/per mile better than my most recent pace, so I'm backing off on my over-reaching predictions.
I still don't think it is completely out of the realm of possibility, If I have a great race day and the weather happens to be cool, but I'm not going to let it bother me if it does not happen next month, since I got it out of my system today.
